AI, only when you ask
Kin can write a two-line briefing before you reach out, turn a quick note into profile updates, and rank people by what you mean. It is off by default.
- Runs on your Mac with Apple Intelligence, or with your own Claude key.
- Every change is shown to you before it is saved.
- Any person can be kept off cloud AI.
- Nothing is sent unless you ask.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Kin need an account?
No. Kin has no accounts and no server. Everything lives in your Apple Contacts and a local file on your Mac.
Where is my data stored?
Contacts stay in Apple Contacts. Kin’s own notes, tags, links, and timeline are in a JSON file in Kin’s container. Settings › Data can export or reset it.
Which Macs does it run on?
macOS 15 Sequoia or later, Apple silicon and Intel. On-device AI needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence.
Does Kin change my contacts?
Only when you edit a person in Kin. It never writes to a contact you did not touch, and it never deletes contacts on its own.
What does the AI send, and where?
Nothing unless you turn AI on. On-device AI never leaves your Mac. With Claude, Kin sends the one person you are looking at, or one-line summaries when you use Ask Kin. Anyone you mark “Keep off cloud AI” is never sent.
How do updates work?
Kin checks a small update feed and offers new versions in the app. You can turn the automatic check off in Settings › About.
